Service guide

Choosing the right string for your game

Different strings are designed for different playing styles, swing speeds, and comfort needs. Below is a simple guide to help you choose what’s right for you — and we’re always happy to fine-tune tension and setup to suit.

Synthetic Gut

A reliable all-round option offering consistent performance at a practical price point. While it doesn’t deliver the same spin and durability as polyester, or the premium comfort of multifilament, synthetic gut remains a solid choice for developing players.

Synthetic gut is a dependable “do-it-all” string that’s easy to play with and cost effective — perfect if you’re building consistency and want a predictable response.

Best for: Beginners, juniors, and casual players seeking balanced performance and value.

Multifilament

Designed to replicate the comfort and feel of natural gut, multifilament strings provide excellent shock absorption, added power, and a softer, more responsive touch compared to synthetic gut.

Multifilaments are highly regarded for arm-friendly performance and are ideal for players experiencing arm discomfort or tennis elbow. They are also commonly used in hybrid setups.

Best for: Players seeking maximum comfort, extra power, and a softer feel — especially those managing arm sensitivity.

Polyester Strings

Polyester strings are built for players who prioritise control, spin, and durability. Favoured by intermediate, advanced, and competitive players, they deliver a firm, controlled response suited to aggressive swing speeds.

Each polyester model differs in stiffness, shape, and tension stability, making proper selection essential. Personalised tension advice helps maximise performance while reducing unnecessary arm strain.

Best for: Intermediate to advanced players chasing precision, heavy topspin, and long-lasting consistency.

FAQs / Tips

Common questions about restringing

How often should I restring my racket?

The frequency depends on how often you play and your style of play. Use the guide below as a simple rule of thumb.

Play frequency / styleRecommended interval
Casual hits (1–2 times per week)3–4 times per year
Regular play (3–4 times per week)Every 4–6 weeks
Competitive play (5–7 times per week)Every 3–4 weeks
How do I know it’s time to restring?

Common signs include strings fraying or breaking, the racket feeling “dead” or lacking power, and a noticeable drop in control or spin. If your shots don’t feel the way they used to, it’s likely time for a fresh set.

Can I customise tension for mains and crosses?

Yes. Many higher-level players use different tensions for mains and crosses to fine-tune performance. A common setup is slightly higher tension on the mains for added control and spin, with lower tension on the crosses to increase power and touch.

Typical tension differences range between 2–5 lbs, depending on preference and string choice.
